Snowmobile Etiquette:... it seems basic manners are missing in many people's education. We have had one good weekend of snow this month, and in that short time we dealt with complaints from neighbors and ourselves from people who just didn't respect other peoples property.
A basic lack of manners seems to be a problem in our world these days. Books and classes are becoming a necessity in a world where everyone seems to thinking only of themselves. I know this isn't true of everyone. Its just that it just takes one person who is careless, rude, indifferent to make a bad impression for everyone.

Snowmobile trails are a privilige. It is not a right for snowmobile owners to drive hundreds of miles in this state on private, state and public land on trails provided for them. It is a privilege that is entrusted to each of us to follow simple common sense rules of consideration.

ONE. You ride on the trail. You do not zip, zap all over peoples private property tearing up their yards, or young trees or terroizing wildlife in the woods. You do not cross over railroad tracks endangering the trains that will be traveling and could derail. Which would ultimately cause the railroad companies to just close trails on land that rightfully belongs to them.

TWO. When staying anywhere, or pulling into restaurants, bars, gas stations you do not rip-roar around digging in paddles wheels and such down through the snow tearing up what will in the spring be their front yards.

Because of the many complaints received last season related to snowmobiles trespassing and noise Otsego County has applied for and received a grant to fund Sherriffs Deputies to patrol the trails.

Please remember to respect the privilege of being out on the trails so this privilege is not taken away.

I guess this means no more Ray's cross country trail around the hotel? or getting to blaze a trail through the front yard. Its a shame that a few people can ruin it for every one else. I can understand the the concerns of the neighbors and the Rays remember we all have to play in the same sand box or in this case build the same snowman. This also goes for general trail riding, people need to remember to stay on their side of the trail especially around corners and curves. I've read in several snowmobile magazines recently of how trails are being closed down. I enjoy riding around the Gaylord area so please ride safe and be polite to the local residents and their property, I don't want to see the trails closed.

It does seem as though it only takes a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone else. Wish I could have been there last weekend to enjoy the snow with anyone else that was there. Was really looking forward to coming up this weekend, however apparnetly Mother Nature has the seasons mixed up. Well I guess now I will wait until after the first of the year, unless by some unforseen miracle I make it up before then. Take care and Happy Holidays

Appreciate everyone's comments. We will still allow riders to ride around the motel. We'll just make sure we remind First Timers to be considerate, not spin or whatever so they're not tearing up the yard. And hopefully we won't have any future problems involving our yard or the neighbors!
